Boundaries that work

Boundary Clarity Chart

Reduce power struggles before they start.

What it is

A chart that separates what's truly non-negotiable, what's negotiable, and what your child gets to decide. Most power struggles come from confusion about which is which.

When to use it

On a weekend or quiet evening — ideally with your co-parent. Update it whenever a child enters a new developmental stage or a recurring fight tells you something has shifted.

How to use it

  1. List the three to five biggest current friction points.
  2. Sort each one into non-negotiable, negotiable, or child-led.
  3. Talk through the negotiable column with your child.
  4. Post the chart somewhere everyone can see it.
  5. Revisit it monthly and adjust.
