Self-regulation for parents
Repair Scripts & Prompts
Scripts to use after yelling, snapping, or disconnecting.
What it is
A collection of short, age-appropriate scripts for the conversation after a rupture. Repair is what actually builds secure attachment — not perfection — and these give you the words when your own are gone.
When to use it
After you yell, snap, give the silent treatment, or react in any way you wish you hadn't. Within a few hours is ideal, but it is never too late.
How to use it
- Regulate your own body first — repair from calm, not guilt.
- Get on your child's level and make gentle eye contact.
- Name what you did, without excuses or blame.
- Acknowledge how it might have felt for them.
- Say what you'll try next time and move on.
